
Students of Gateway Kids School of Computing as well as those in Gateway Centre for Information Technology, Gateway College Colombo and Gateway College Kandy performed exceptionally well at the recently concluded Young Computer Scientist competition to win 22 out of the 40 awards. The competition, modelled on the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA), is organized by the Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI) to facilitate and promote the ‘Younger Generation’ to present their ideas, skills, thoughts and views on aspects relating to Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The competition is held in two age groups. They are the Junior Category (12-16 years) and the Senior Category (17-19 years).
In the Junior category, students of Gateway College, Colombo - Ramitha Soysa & Navin Gunatillake (Group Project –titled Iraqi Guerillas using Game maker 6.0) and Kavindu Diyes, Kasun Dias, Nilupul Bandara & Ramesh Weerakoon (Group Project - titled KKNR Supermarket using Visual Basic 6.0) won Merit Awards. Thejitha Gunasekera of Gateway College, Kandy – (project titled MP3 factory using Microsoft Front Page) too won a Merit Award.

Dulan Lalintha Dantanarayana (project titled Tic Tac Toe using Netbeans IDE 5.0 and java j2sdk 1.4.2) and Kushan Lalanga Fernando (project titled Data Bank.com using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Flash MX and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0) of Gateway Kids School of Computing, Panadura branch.
Abdul Kareem Nowman Kareem (project titled How the eye works using Macromedia Flash and Director) , Sithira Vindula Ambepitiya (project titled Rocket launch using 3D-Max) and Ramitha Ishan Abeyratne (project titled database of a Telephone company using Microsoft Access) of Gateway Kids School of Computing, Kollupitiya branch.
Vishvaka Ranasinghe (project titled Birdhunder using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0) and Sasika Pinnapola (project titled Easy Store + using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0) of Gateway Kids School of Computing, Borella branch.
Abdul Razzak Ashraf (project titled Who wants to become the Millionaire using Microsoft PowerPoint) and Charindhi Ruwanka Weerasinghe (project titled First Aid using Microsoft PowerPoint) of Gateway Kids School of Computing, Bambalapitiya branch.
Sarith Chalinda Pallewella (project titled S-Chat using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0) of Gateway Centre for Information Technology, Borella.
In the Senior category Chelaka De Alwis and Tharana Egodage (Group Project –titled Entro of Apache using 3D Max) of Gateway Kids School of Computing, Nugegoda branch won a Merit Award. Madushani Madduma (project titled Library system using Microsoft Access) and Shabeer Ahamed (project titled Stock control system using Microsoft Access) of Gateway College Kandy also won Merit Awards.
