Being the first organization in South Asia to introduce the Computer Driving Licence, Gateway counts over 8 years of experience with the fastest growing ICT qualification in the world. Gateway by far, has produced the largest number of ICDL holders in Sri Lanka. Gateway has the distinction of producing course material for ICDL that has been published in the UK. Having the largest network of accredited centres in the country, Gateway provides opportunities to every Sri Lankan not only to be IT literate but to prove their skills too.
ECDL was first introduced in South Asia in 1999 by Gateway in Sri Lanka. This was at a time when ECDL was gaining popularity in the UK but was almost unheard of in Sri Lanka. Gateway foresaw a need for a product such as ECDL in Sri Lanka for people to demonstrate and prove their ICT skills. In 2003, due to increasing popularity of ECDL in Europe, a decision was taken to offer ECDL world over under the new name – ICDL. Gateway was also the first organisation to be accredited to offer ICDL in South Asia. Thus, Gateway has the widest experience in carrying out ICDL training and testing in Sri Lanka. Over the years, thousands of students have successfully completed training in ICDL making Gateway the most successful trainer in the South Asian region.
Gateway offers an attractive package that includes training and certification for both private sector and state sector employees to make them IT literate. ICDL is a qualification that is extremely useful for individuals seeking employment as it will confirm to potential employers that the person seeking employment has a professionally recognised, relevant and up-to-date qualification. Similarly, a company looking to train its workforce in IT will want to ensure that the money they spend on the training is going to be well spent. Therefore, ICDL will be the solution to many employers who are faced with a situation of proliferation of different courses making varying claims, often without any objective evidence.
Gateway offers to provide training either in their own centres all round the country or in-house in the companies itself. Gateway also offers their course material both in the form of printed material as well as e-Learning material for companies to educate their staff using their trainers. The organisation has provided training for several large scale training assignments in both private and the public sectors. They include the Ministry of Education, Colombo Dockyard, UNDP, World Vision, Youth Corps, Foreign Employment Bureau, District/Divisional Secretariats of Kalutara and Matara, Sri Lanka Navy etc..
Two years ago, Gateway introduced e-Citizen, an improver level training and certification for those with a limited knowledge of computers and the Internet. The qualification is extremely useful for basic level users to facilitate their participation in the Information Society. Assessment in e-Citizen is in the same lines of ICDL but is limited to one test only.
The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) encourages Government servants and citizens to qualify in ICDL and e-Citizen, in order to create an ICT literate society and skilled workforce.
The latest qualification introduced by Gateway is ICDL Advanced. Widely recognised as the International Advanced end-user computer skills standard, ICDL Advanced is designed for those who have successfully reached ICDL skills levels and wish to further enhance their IT skills. Each of the four modules (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database and Presentation) have been designed as a stand-alone certification in each respective area. Candidates who complete all four modules are awarded with ICDL Advanced Expert certification.
Gateway has the largest network of ICDL accredited centers in Sri Lanka.
