Purinda Gunersekara won the coveted Gold Medal at the Senior category of Young Computer Scientist 2005 organized by the Sri Lanka Association for the Software industry. This competition, open to all students and schools in Sri Lanka is held along with the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2005 organized by the Sri Lankan section of the British Computer Society. This annual event is organised to honour significant technological developments and innovations of software developed in Sri Lanka. Purinda has also been selected to represent Sri Lanka for the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2005 to be held in Thailand. His invention was a 3 Dimensional First Person Shooter game developed with a special device that would simulate a realistic background according to the surrounding.
