JKH engages Gateway to improve English among youth

John Keells Holdings, Sri Lanka 's leading blue chip company has made significant investments to provide opportunities for less fortunate children in the country to learn English. As a socially responsible organization, JKH believes that English is an essential tool for today's child to meet tomorrow's challenges in education and employment. As the service provider, Gateway is of the view that the only way to break the barriers in society is to invest in children's education and that programs of this nature aimed at the less privileged children are of immense value to the development of our country.

Two Hundred and fifty children were awarded full scholarships to follow a two year program of study at the Gateway Language Centres in Colombo , Wattala, Gampaha, Kandy , Galle , Bandarawela, Wellawaya and Habarana. Students studying in the secondary level are provided with training, course material (both classroom as well as self study with cassettes) and the opportunity to sit for international examinations where they could obtain British qualifications completely free of charge. JKH wishes to broad base this offer by spreading into other areas of the country in the near future.
