GATEWAY WINS TWO MORE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gateway College, Colombo emerged champions in the recently concluded Inter-International Under 13 Boys' and Girls' Basketball Tournaments, organized by the Colombo International School (Colombo). Thus, the school continues its winning spree by winning five out of six championships that have been held within the last two months. They have so far won Under 17 (Boys and Girls) and Under 15 Boys as well. Gateway secured the third place in Under 15 Boys.
At the Under 13 Boys' Tournament, Gateway beat Elizabeth Moir School by a score of 57-17 in the Quarter final and reached the final by beating Asian International by score of 46-26. The final of the Under 13 Boys' Tournament which was with CIS, Colombo, was dominated by Gateway who won the game by 43-16. Melantha Janz was without doubt the leader of the pack by scoring 30 points. Melantha was adjudged the Most Valuable Player and Ruchie Padmawansa, the Best Defensive Player.
At the Under 13 Girls' Tournament, Gateway beat Asian International 38-4 and beat Lyceum International, Wattala 43-10 in the semi final to reach the final. Under 13 Girls' final which was also with CIS, Colombo saw a closer game where Gateway won 23-13. Most Valuable Player, Shenuka Wakkumbura and Best Offensive Player, Osuri Ariyakumara were instrumental in getting the job done along with the rest of the team.
