Gateway Kandy wins comfortably at Basketball

In the first leg of the Inaugural Quadrangular Encounter between Gateway, Trinity, Hillwood and St. Sylvester’s, Gateway College Kandy beat St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy 56-26 at Basketball to win the Asoka Herath - Ranil Meetiyagoda Challenge Trophy. The game was played under flood lights in the state-of-the-art Basketball court in Gateway College Knady. The hosts dominated the game from the beginning to the end with Ganath Amadoru (15) and Pontichai Yanblab (9) being the high scorers for Gateway. Mohamed Akthab scored 7 points for Sylvesters.

The invitation game between the girls of Gateway Kandy and Hillwood College was a closer contest but the Gateway girls were clear winners with a score of 29-16. Madukesh Padmanathan (10) and Shenali Jayaweera (6) excelled for Gateway while Supuni Ratnayake scored 6 points for Hillwood.

The second leg will be held on the 6th of February 2020 at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium, Pallekele from 2.00 PM onwards. The event will get underway with a Netball encounter between Gateway College Kandy and Hillwood College, Kandy who will compete for the Rohini Alles – Somakumari Samarasinghe Challenge Trophy. An invitation Netball match between Gateway College Colombo and Kandy Girls’ High School will be played, after the main event. The Netball matches will be followed by a Football match between Gateway College Kandy and Trinity College, Kandy, scheduled for 4.30 PM. The teams will play for the R.I.T. Alles – Reverend Ireland Jones Challenge Trophy.
