Gateway College Colombo continued their outstanding winning record by beating Lyceum International School, Panadura comprehensively by a score of 6-0 at the final of FUTC 2019 - the Football Under 20 Championship. The highlight of the record breaking performance of Gateway was the scoring of 52 goals in 6 games.
Without doubt, Nansika Kaggodaarachchi of Gateway College, Colombo was the star of the tournament and received the awards of ‘Player of the Tournament’ and ‘Golden Boot’. Returning after a two year injury, Nansika booted 24 goals by getting through the defenses of all opponents. In doing so, he has broken the International Schools record for the highest goal tally. He has also established a new record for the most goals scored in a single game with 9 goals against the British School of Colombo in the quarter finals by beating the previous record that has been established by his brother Samunu.
Captain Areeb Niyas of Gateway College, Colombo was named the player of the finals for his outstanding performance of scoring 4 goals in his last ever Inter- International’s school football game. The best goalkeeper award went to Infas Iqbal of Gateway College Colombo for conceding the least amount of goals. Infas conceded only 6 goals in 6 games and kept 2 clean sheets in his debut senior tournament.
At group stage, Gateway overcame Stafford International School 5-0, Elizabeth Moir 6-2, Lyceum Ratnapura 16-1 and at the quarter final, beat British School of Colombo 14-1. At semis, they beat the sister school, Gateway College Kandy 5-2.
