Gateway Juniors Excel at Squash Nationals

Bihandu Nanayakkara and Manuth Dassanayake of Gateway College emerged champions of the Under 11 and Under 9 age groups respectively, at the recently concluded 30 th Junior National championship played at the Air Force Squash Complex, Ratmalana. Bihandu beat S. A. Dias of St. Joseph’s after a tough game where the scores were 11/8, 11/7, 6/11, 5/11 and 11/0. Manuth beat A. G. R. Kiran, also of St. Joseph’s, 3 sets to 2.

The mega event in which over 400 competitors took part was organized by Sri Lanka Squash Federation and sponsored by CBL Foods Internationals (Pvt) Ltd. In the same competition, M. Inzamam Faham and his teammate M. I. Nilam of Gateway were the winner and the runner up of Under 15 Novices.

During the formative years, Gateway’s coach concentrated mainly on developing the interest and enthusiasm of the youngsters. This has most certainly contributed towards the steady progress of this emerging sport of Gateway.
