The Extent of Damage from Tsunami

Following tsunami, the severely destructed school and her children were in need of immediate assistance. The damage caused by tsunami was such that the Principals’ bungalow, science laboratory, home science laboratory, toilets and many class rooms were completely destroyed. Most belongings such as library books, laboratory equipment, sports equipment, musical instruments and furniture were washed away. The school was devoid of electricity and water supply. There was an immediate concern of security as the entire boundary wall had collapsed. All that was left were two partly destroyed halls.

 

Of the 336 students, five lost their fathers, one a Mother and two grandmothers. Forty two children were injured 89 lost their homes completely. The houses of most others were damaged leaving them with only the clothes that they were wearing at the time of the catastrophe.
